RYM Clapham

Jo, Charles & I went off to London to join the rest of the RYM (Redemptorist Youth Ministry) bunch who could be there for the weekend. The trip was fun. Jo totally snubbed a lady who was away to sit on a seat in Runcorn railway station with an impeccably timed swing into said seat. And I was impressed with the presentability of the lavatories.

On the Saturday we got our collective heads together to organise a prayer service based on the Parable of the Prodigal Son. The service itself was brilliant. Some other people from the parish turned up for it too. The space in the beautiful church was used and everyone had a part to play. Earlier on we had a session of deep meditation. Some present evidently went deeper than meditation and some even had a rather amusing outburst!

On Sunday we went for a walk through the town and caught the St Patrick's parade. They were cheered on by our crowd. I particularly enjoyed our walk through St James' Park approaching the Victoria Memorial. I was beginning to wonder that day whether I really am that urban kid I thought myself to be!

We're back now but busy getting coursework done! I'm currently working on an essay critically evaluating Feminist Christology.

Retreat in Kinnoull

Fr. Ralph, Charles and I gave a retreat over the weekend in our house at Kinnoull, Perth for a group from the Diocese of Motherwell. We focused on giving people the space to reflect on the Sunday Gospel, having a session of lectio divina in small groups.

In the evenings we relaxed and socialised - something that was a surprise to some who had been on retreats before. Particularly memorable was the sing-song on the Saturday evening.

The responses of the retreatants were incredibly positive. I came away from the weekend with a strong sense that this kind of thing was what I was in it for.
